Bottle Blocks is a children's building block toy made from 100% recycled HDPE plastic detergent bottles. Inspired to solve for the amount of plastic toys polluting our oceans, Bottle Blocks is a multifunctional, longer lasting toy made from recycled materials that can be remelted into a new object at the end of its life instead of thrown away. Bottle Blocks serves as a way to introduce children to the possibilities of recycled materials at a young age, and show them the variety of colors, textures, and importance of future sustainable design.

The uniquely shaped, interlocking pieces push the traditional design of building blocks and encourage unstructured play for children to explore form, balance, and spatial relations while learning about sustainable materials. Each block features one-of-a-kind coloring from the specific plastic used to melt it, giving the toy character from its material and showing the variety and beauty of using recycled materials. The toy prototype is a jumping off point for the potential of this material; recycled HDPE is easily accessible, safe, and sustainable, making it a perfect material to use to design for the future.
